Season 17: Dressrosa ep. 629–746

The Doflamingo fight ends inside this book, and the place to stop reading is not its last page. Chapters 786 to 795 open with Doflamingo still conscious, the birdcage still closing, and Luffy out of Haki and needing ten minutes of rest he has no way to buy. The fight is settled within these chapters; Dressrosa is not, and the island keeps the crew for six more chapters at the front of the next volume. The closing chapters here start pointing the story somewhere else, so a reader breaking off is better served stopping a few chapters early than at the back cover. Season 17 of the anime covers chapters 699 to 801 and runs past everything in this book. Viz lists two hundred pages at $11.99, and the volume sits inside Box Set 4, which Viz states as volumes 71 to 90.

Doflamingo goes down and the birdcage with him, and the consequence the book chooses to show is not the celebration but the supply chain: with the weapons shipments stopped, wars elsewhere collapse. Fujitora then apologizes to Riku for the World Government's part in it. The rest of the book is bookkeeping and advertising. Sabo closes the gap in his own history, that he was shot by the Celestial Dragons, lost his memory and was raised by Luffy's father, and that the coverage of Ace's death is what gave it back. Then two hooks. Four of the crew are shown fighting on an unnamed island against men hunting a samurai, and Kaido, one of the Four Emperors, survives a fall from a sky island, landing on the Kid Pirates' hideout. That closing beat is the series' method in miniature: the fight that ends here is finished, and the antagonist of the Wano run is already on the paper.
