Rurouni Kenshin 3 brings Megumi’s need for protection into Kaoru’s dojo. Continue from the preceding standard paperback for her arrival and the men pursuing her. The contents numbers the main story as Acts 16 to 22, with a separate special story afterward. This single is also collected in the first English omnibus. Our opening analysis examines who is told the reason for offering refuge and who is kept outside that conversation; it does not report the resolution of Megumi’s case.

Sanosuke invents a gambling-debt explanation when the group returns with Megumi, keeping the opium connection from Kaoru. The lie may shield her from disturbing information, but it also excludes the owner of the dojo from understanding what her household has taken on. Megumi’s contempt for the place and flattery toward Kenshin make the welcome harder. Kaoru’s angry reaction does not establish that the danger Megumi names is imaginary. Sanosuke’s insistence on an explanation has a particular cost behind it: he has lost a friend to opium. Kenshin argues for stopping its spread without making protection depend on a complete confession first. The opening sets these responses beside one another rather than giving everyone the same reason to help. This analysis reads only printed pages 7–17 of VIZ’s licensed English preview. The pursuers’ later actions and Megumi’s eventual decision are outside that excerpt.
