Rurouni Kenshin 2 begins during Kenshin’s fight with Sanosuke, continuing the first paperback’s confrontation. The printed contents list chapters 7–15. Begin with Volume 1 for the original manga’s introduction; this opening assumes the challenge is already under way. Both VIZBIG 1 and the smaller 3-in-1 book 1 collect standard Volumes 1–3, so this paperback overlaps either first collection. Match the edition and contained range before switching formats. The spoiler analysis below examines the licensed beginning of chapter 7 and its flashback, without claiming to have read the rest of the volume.
Spoilers — why this volume matters. Tap to reveal.
Kenshin recognizes the limits of Sanosuke’s enormous sword, but understanding the weapon does not explain why its owner refuses defeat. The opening supplies that explanation through a promised political future. Captain Sagara tells the young Sanosuke that the revolution will bring equality; even a farmer’s son will be able to take a surname. Sanosuke chooses the captain’s name. The flashback then shows the Sekiho Army declared fraudulent and Sagara’s severed head displayed beneath the official charge. The institutional account calls the promise deception; Sanosuke remembers the men who made the captain a scapegoat. His attack on Kenshin consequently treats a former revolutionary assassin as answerable for the revolution’s betrayal. That grievance does not establish Kenshin’s personal responsibility for Sagara’s death, and superior swordsmanship cannot by itself answer it. VIZ’s licensed preview supplies printed pages 7–19. The fight’s resolution and later chapters are outside this reading.
