Soul Eater’s fourth book opens by introducing an escaped prisoner who claims he cannot be killed. The licensed Yen Press digital preview begins chapter 10, then moves from the prison confrontation to Maka and Soul’s special tutoring with Stein. This note reads only printed pages 5 to 21 of that preview. It does not establish the later fight or whether the training succeeds. The digital witness is distinct from the listed paperback; the existing standard range of chapters 10 to 14 and its physical metadata remain unchanged.

The prisoner’s claim to immortality turns captivity into a failure of imagination rather than proof that his guards could defeat him. He admits that an escape copied from films failed because his food came with chopsticks, then survives attacks that would normally stop a fugitive. The tutoring scene tests a different kind of dependence. Maka seeks more strength so Soul will not be injured protecting her again, but Stein tells him to accept the exercise because the meister has decided. Soul objects that she made the decision without asking him. The scented candles amplify their feelings, and the exchange ends with Stein observing their wavelengths falling out of alignment. Protection is their shared concern, yet treating the other person as someone whose choice can be overridden makes that partnership harder to sustain. The opening supplies the fracture, not its repair.
