Soul Eater 5 opens with the academy's anniversary celebration and with preparations outside it. Chapters 15–18 are listed in the Yen Press digital contents. The licensed opening offers a social pause for the students while Medusa's associates get equipment ready elsewhere. This analysis reads through those associates reaching Death City. Their operation, the celebration's later disruption and the rest of the volume remain beyond the inspected pages.

The party does not make Soul's private difficulty disappear. He leaves the gathering for the balcony, where Maka first offers food and then asks whether something is worrying him. He declines to explain. Maka expects repeated questions to annoy him, but asks whether he finds her unreliable as a partner. Rather than winning an answer through persistence, she proposes dancing as a way to improve their coordination. Her father interrupts that possibility, and the food she has brought gives Soul a smaller way to acknowledge her attention: he eats it and thanks her after she has gone. The response is limited, but it is visible. Set beside Medusa's preparations, this exchange gives the celebration both an approaching threat and an unfinished act of ordinary care.
