Soul Eater 6 begins with pursuit and fighting already under way beneath the anniversary celebration. Its Yen Press digital contents list chapters 19–22 as the fourth through seventh parts of that confrontation. The licensed opening follows Kid struggling with a passage full of magical bombs and Maka confronting Crona. This reading stops as Maka senses her own and Soul's souls. Neither the fight's winner nor the threat to the academy is resolved within the inspected pages.

Kid's disgust at an irregular arrangement briefly stops him from passing through a dangerous hallway. His companions try understanding first, then invoke his responsibility as a shinigami to make him move. Elsewhere, Crona attacks with a kind of exhilaration Maka finds difficult to interpret. Soul identifies their absence of fear, while Maka observes that fighting this way denies regard for other souls and even their own. She attempts to enter the same condition so she can match their wavelengths. That attempt brings a different discovery: she sees her small soul beside her partner's much larger one and remembers his kindness beneath his rebellious manner. Matching an opponent becomes a question about perceiving a partner as well. The opening leaves this perception untested as a solution to the ongoing fight.
