The Apothecary Diaries manga's tenth book begins during a banquet arranged for foreign envoys. Nekokurage's Square Enix book contains chapters 48 to 53, continuing the preceding book's “The Moon Fairy” chapter. That split makes this an awkward place to enter the episode. The licensed reading here is limited to printed pages 5 to 19, from the banquet arrangements through Maomao waiting under the willows. The envoys' later response and the following clinic chapters have not been inspected.

The banquet is built around controlled visibility: converted carriages let the consorts lower blinds, while rank determines where everyone sits and when they may leave. An envoy crosses that distance herself. Maomao reads the approach as a challenge and records the attendants' anger, but those judgments are not an admission of motive by the visitor. The preparations for a convincing appearance run beside a political contest over appearances. Maomao then leaves with Jinshi and waits where the willows conceal her from the banquet; she expects to catch the departing guests' attention. The opening shows the construction of an effect without showing its success. Readers can inspect the labor behind the spectacle here, while its reception remains beyond the preview.
