The Apothecary Diaries manga Volume 11 resumes Maomao's investigation of the Shrine of Choosing. Its contents list chapters 54–58 in the Square Enix manga adaptation, whose numbering differs from the novels. The opening continues an existing puzzle, so the preceding manga book supplies the initial attempt and its context. The spoiler analysis reads the licensed opening pages only, including Maomao's renewed route through the shrine; it does not certify the later imperial-history chapters as read.

Maomao's request to repeat the shrine test meets an objection about eligibility before it meets an objection about evidence. The emperor can overrule that barrier, but his intervention also leaves a visible gap between who completes the rite and who explains it. Jinshi follows Maomao's door choices; afterward the official acknowledges that someone outside the expected bloodline supplied the solution. Maomao then reframes apparent riddles around the ability to distinguish colors. The test looks like a proof of judgment until perception becomes part of its hidden conditions. That reading gives the ceremonial setting a practical weakness: a successful route alone cannot tell an observer whether someone reasoned correctly, followed instructions or saw the same alternatives everyone else assumed were present.
