The Apothecary Diaries manga's ninth book opens with a caravan bringing shops into the inner court. Contents list chapters 43 to 47 in Nekokurage's Square Enix adaptation. The opening starts with discarded clothes and preparations for buying replacements, rather than an inspected murder scene. This note reads printed pages 5 to 19 of the licensed preview only. It does not describe the later fungus or mirror chapters, and this manga number should not be used as a light-novel buying reference.

Shopping makes the court's unequal freedoms visible. The higher ranks choose goods first; Xiaolan has little money and receives what is left. Maomao enjoys being invited anyway, then declines to display her own allowance in front of her friend. That consideration coexists with a practical plan to wait for discounts. The new clothes also turn consumption into a question about information: Maomao notices their fit suits Gyokuyou's pregnancy better than her usual taste. She wonders whether the merchants are probing for something and suggests asking for another style. The suspicion remains a suspicion. No answer is inspected. The opening earns its quieter register by making friendship, rank and discretion work through the same ordinary purchases; the shopping is neither empty diversion nor proof of a conspiracy.
