The dragon encounter offers a direct test of an apprentice group, but that alone is not the reason to buy the run. A dangerous creature and inexperienced learners are a familiar fantasy arrangement. The more specific reason to continue is the interruption of an ordinary purchase: a masked witch transports the apprentices away from their trip to Kalhn. Their access to magic does not give them control over the conditions under which they must use it. Read it as a continuation of Coco’s precarious entry into the profession, with the earlier introduction beside it.
