YuYu Hakusho 4 opens with Genkai testing the remaining applicants in actual combat. Follow the previous standard paperback for the tournament’s setup: this is its next selection stage, rather than Yusuke’s introduction. Darkness changes what the fighters must rely on, and Genkai’s rules leave their methods unusually open. The spoiler note examines those rules and the early matches. Conflicting printed and online installment numbers remain unresolved, so the catalog does not certify a whole-book chapter range or an anime handoff.

Genkai’s darkened arena tests what an applicant can perceive without seeing. Weapons and techniques remain available; sensing an opponent becomes part of the practical problem rather than a guarantee of success. Her answer to an assassin’s question is equally severe: she will teach the ultimate winner regardless of profession or ambition. Yusuke fears what that neutrality could mean if Rando wins. The passage gives him a reason to worry, without establishing that Genkai knows which contestant is Rando. Her consistency is useful for comparing skill and troubling as a way of deciding who should inherit it. The early matches also resist Yusuke’s confidence: another fighter’s blast dwarfs his, while Musashi suppresses his aura against Kuwabara’s heightened perception. This analysis reads only printed pages 7–19 of VIZ’s licensed preview. It covers the opening tests and exchanges, not the eventual successor or the outcome of Kuwabara’s fight.
