Kuwabara's immediate desire to rescue Yukina is mixed with infatuation: he wants to leave before the briefing has finished, and Yusuke insists on hearing the remaining information. Good intentions arrive ahead of preparation. The captors expose another failure of judgment. Tarukane treats Yukina's quiet face as an obstacle to profit, since her tears become jewels. Physical coercion does not give him the response he wants, but threatening the birds she cares for does. Her attachment has not disappeared simply because he cannot read it. The scene places a human dealer and supernatural hired force in the same business of cruelty, complicating Kuwabara's comparison of the dealer with a demon.
