Hercule is stuck face first in a boulder when Caroni offers help. He answers by calling the predicament a warm-up, and Piiza eagerly interprets it as the secret of his impressive condition. The claim succeeds socially before it succeeds physically. He has not escaped the rock; he has escaped the meaning that getting stuck would ordinarily have. An audience willing to interpret every event as a demonstration of expertise can protect the expert from evidence that he needs assistance. Caroni's initial question leaves room for a practical response. Piiza's admiration closes it by making the accident sound intentional. Hercule benefits from that interpretation and continues performing readiness while still trapped. They do part of the work by treating his own explanation as more authoritative than the problem directly in front of them.

The question about belief comes before the account of how Cell was beaten. Hercule tries the result on his listeners, receives admiration, and only then supplies the story of walking over and defeating Cell with a chop. Piiza praises him and Caroni explains the hidden strength on his behalf. Their responses give him room to become more definite. When the interviewer finally asks about the boy and his companions, Hercule folds them into the fiction as grateful witnesses who went home. The boast is not an impressive improvisation that needs celebrating for its audacity. It shows how little an eager audience demands before helping a claim harden into an account. The details arrive after belief has already made them useful.

Hercule's familiar performance has become dangerous to the arrangement keeping him champion. 18 has agreed to lose, but kicks him and reminds him that a convincing match is still required. She also brings up his insult. His apology identifies the trap in maintaining the persona: acting recognizably like himself means treating a secretly superior collaborator as someone he can belittle. Earlier, after Cell's defeat, he could construct a triumph for listeners willing to admire it. This performance has a participant who knows the bargain and can impose a cost inside it. Paying for the outcome does not buy complete control over the way it is delivered. 18's later threat about collecting payment makes that inequality explicit. The role that once helped Hercule escape scrutiny now requires behavior that irritates the person enabling it. His explanation is funny because the public self has become something he performs even when the private deal would be easier without it.

Learning that Videl is dead sends Hercule toward Gohan with an accusation. Gohan's reply is that he was not there. The grief makes the father's search for someone answerable painfully clear, but the boyfriend's role does not itself establish an opportunity to prevent what happened. Hercule treats the relationship as though it should have guaranteed protection across that absence. The claim also gives Gohan an impossible way to prove that he was the right boyfriend: the person he cared about would have to remain safe whenever he was elsewhere. That standard turns a death into evidence of personal inadequacy before the father's question has established any available act of rescue. A fair objection is that caring for someone can create responsibilities extending beyond the moments spent beside them. The exchange, however, supplies no neglected warning, abandoned assignment or broken promise that would make this particular absence a failure. The accusation gets its force from who Gohan is to Videl, rather than what he could have done in the event. His short answer cannot console the father, but it identifies the missing condition in the charge. Love can make a death unbearable without making the surviving partner its cause.

“Really? Hmm...uh... I've got a question then. If these two are so great and powerful, why don't they stop Majin Buu.”

Dende introduces the Kais by describing their authority, and Hercule asks why they have not stopped Buu. He soon makes a much worse inference: deciding the strange scene must be a dream, he jumps off a cliff and discovers that it hurts. That later foolishness should not be allowed to answer the earlier question. Holding the highest office does not explain the limits of what its holder can do in this crisis. Hercule has noticed a gap in the introduction even if he lacks the knowledge to fill it sensibly. Elder Kai responds by disparaging the person who was rescued, which also leaves the practical issue untouched. The scene is funny at Hercule's expense, but a reading that makes him wrong about everything would be less exact than the dialogue. His belief in his own unmatched strength is absurd; his request for an account of why the supposed protectors cannot provide protection remains intelligible.

After Cell's defeat, Hercule tested whether his listeners would believe he had won, then supplied a story in which the real participants thanked him and went home. Here he names that fraud himself while refusing a further use of the trust it created. Vegeta wants more energy from Earth's people despite the danger that giving too much could kill them. Hercule will not make that request. The difference is not that he has become incapable of enjoying a false reputation. It is that the believers have acquired a claim on him that he refuses to treat as another resource to exploit. Their affection is not proof that the earlier story was true, and his admission does not refund the credit he took. Still, the refusal has content beyond feeling ashamed. He identifies an action he could perform through his public standing and declines because it would endanger the people whose belief sustains that standing.
