For a new reader, Kodansha’s Your Lie in April omnibus is the better buy: four books, the whole story, color art and translation notes, and about $35 less at list than the 11 singles. The singles still make sense for finishing an older shelf.

The two editions

From Kodansha product pages, checked October 14, 2026. Prices are publisher list, not retailer offers.

What the omnibus adds

Kodansha calls it a “collectible reissue” and says Omnibus 1 “includes three full volumes of the original release, newly-published color art, translation notes, and a new, larger size.” Omnibus 4’s page uses the same sentence, “three full volumes,” but the same page also says it “includes Vol. 10-11 of the manga—over 400 pages,” which is what the numbering requires. It collects two singles, not three.

Mixing editions

The omnibus groups singles in threes, so switching is clean at a multiple of three. Own singles 1 to 3? Continue with Omnibus 2. Own 1 to 4? Omnibus 2 will repeat Vol. 4; buy singles 5 and 6 and then Omnibus 3. Keep in mind the omnibus is larger, so the shelf will not line up. Our edition-switching guide has more on this.

The prose companion

Your Lie in April: A Six-Person Etude (164 pages, July 25, 2017) is a book of “prose chapters” that explore the incident when Kosei, at eleven, froze on stage, told “from his friends and rivals’ perspectives.” It is not a manga volume and does not replace any number. Read it after the manga if you want more.

Which to buy

  • New reader: Omnibus 1.
  • Finishing singles: the missing singles, or switch at a multiple of three.
  • Finished and want more: A Six-Person Etude.

Our Kosei Arima character analysis covers the lead. The ending explainer spoils the story, so save it.
