A Sign of Affection comes in two English print formats from Kodansha, and they hold the same story. Twelve single volumes are out, and four omnibuses collect exactly those twelve, three to a book. The series is still running, so neither format is a complete set: the next book after either route is single Vol. 13, which Penguin Random House lists for December 8, 2026.

The two formats

What each omnibus collects

Kodansha’s product copy states the range for every book: Omnibus 1 “Includes Vol. 1-3,” Omnibus 2 Vols. 4–6, Omnibus 3 Vols. 7–9, and Omnibus 4 “Includes Vol. 10-12.” Kodansha calls it a “new, large-sized omnibus edition.” It is print only: the product pages list no digital edition.

At list price, three singles cost $38.97 against $22.99 for the omnibus that collects them, so the omnibus route to Vol. 12 is $63.92 cheaper. The singles have a digital edition with its own ISBNs, and they are the only format with books after Vol. 12 announced.

Vol. 13 and the series status

Kodansha’s series page marks A Sign of Affection “Ongoing” and shows 12 books available. Penguin Random House’s Vol. 13 listing gives ISBN 9798888779682, a 160-page paperback at $12.99, “Available on Dec 08, 2026,” and it also lists Vol. 14 (ISBN 9798900742496, $12.99) for July 13, 2027. No Omnibus 5 is listed by either publisher, so anyone who wants Vol. 13 on release day has to buy a single, whichever format they started with.

Mixing formats without a duplicate

The two formats line up in groups of three. If you own singles, switch to the omnibus only after Vol. 3, 6 or 9: someone holding Vols. 1 to 4 who buys Omnibus 2 pays again for Vol. 4. If you own the four omnibuses, continue with single Vol. 13. The A Sign of Affection catalog lists the released books and Vol. 13, with announced books kept apart from released ones, and the edition-switching guide covers the general check.

Which to buy

  • Trying it: single Vol. 1, or Omnibus 1 if you already know you want more.
  • Catching up to the current English volume: Omnibuses 1–4, then singles from Vol. 13.
  • Reading digitally: the singles; the omnibus has no digital edition.

Kodansha rates the series 16+. Its Vol. 1 copy recommends it to readers of A Silent Voice, and our essay on Yuki and the work of communication looks at the lead (spoilers).
