JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Sub or Dub?
Every part through Stone Ocean has an English dub from one studio. Who voices each JoJo, where each track streams, what a named critic said, and the Stand names the English release changed.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is one long anime split into parts, each with a new JoJo, and every part from Phantom Blood to Stone Ocean has an English dub. The practical questions are who voices whom in each part, where each track can be streamed, and what the English release did to the Stand names. This page sets out those facts and a named critic's assessment, and the verdict at the end says what it rests on.
The short answer
Either track works, and where you watch decides more than taste does. As checked from the United States on October 7, 2026, Crunchyroll streams the series in Japanese only, while Netflix's page lists five seasons through Stone Ocean and English and Japanese among its audio tracks. The one named critic we found who graded both tracks, for the first 24 episodes of Stone Ocean, rated the sub slightly higher.
Who made the dub
The anime is produced by David Production; the first season premiered in Japan on October 5, 2012. Every English dub through Stone Ocean is credited on ANN to Bang Zoom! Entertainment. Voice direction is credited to Kevin McMullan and Patrick Seitz for the first season (Parts 1 and 2) and to Tony Oliver for Stardust Crusaders, Diamond Is Unbreakable and Golden Wind, with Bill Millsap, Courtney Sanford and Tony Oliver credited as ADR directors on Stone Ocean. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment released Parts 1 and 2 on DVD with an English dub, and in July 2016 ANN reported that Adult Swim's Toonami block would begin airing the series, starting with Part 1, in October.
The protagonists, part by part
From ANN's encyclopedia credits for each season:
| Part | Character | Japanese | English |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1: Phantom Blood | Jonathan Joestar | Kazuyuki Okitsu | Johnny Yong Bosch |
| 1 and 3 | Dio Brando | Takehito Koyasu | Patrick Seitz |
| 2: Battle Tendency | Joseph Joestar | Tomokazu Sugita | Ben Diskin |
| 3: Stardust Crusaders | Jotaro Kujo | Daisuke Ono | Matthew Mercer |
| 4: Diamond Is Unbreakable | Josuke Higashikata | Yūki Ono | Billy Kametz |
| 5: Golden Wind | Giorno Giovanna | Kenshō Ono | Phillip Reich |
| 6: Stone Ocean | Jolyne | Fairouz Ai | Kira Buckland |
What a named critic said
Reviewing the first 24 of Stone Ocean's 38 episodes for Anime News Network in September 2022, Caitlin Moore wrote that "the voice casts in both English and Japanese are excellent overall," and singled out Fairouz Ai and Kira Buckland as Jolyne. She named Pucci and Dio as the dub's weak points, saying Patrick Seitz "doesn't do sultry particularly well" in this part. She graded the dub B and the sub B-plus. We found no comparable named review of the dub for the earlier parts, so this page does not claim one.
Renamed Stands
Some Stands share their names with real bands, and the English subtitles changed several of them. Anime News Network's episode reviewer Sam Leach, who noted that one Stand is named after the rock group Bad Company, recorded these changes as the episodes aired: in Diamond Is Unbreakable, Crazy Diamond appeared as "Shining Diamond" and Bad Company as "Worse Company", Red Hot Chili Pepper was truncated to "Chili Pepper" "for legal reasons", and Killer Queen appeared as "Deadly Queen"; in Golden Wind, Gold Experience and Sticky Fingers appeared as "Golden Wind" and "Zipper Man". Those notes describe the subtitles at broadcast, not necessarily every current release. Names of people changed too: ANN credits the Stone Ocean heroine as Jolyne Kūjō in Japanese and Jolyne Cujoh in English, while her father stays Jotaro Kujo.
Where to watch each track
Checked October 7, 2026, from the United States: Crunchyroll's JoJo's Bizarre Adventure page is marked "Subtitled" and lists Japanese as its only audio. Netflix's JoJo's Bizarre Adventure page lists five seasons (Phantom Blood/Battle Tendency, Stardust Crusaders, Diamond Is Unbreakable, Golden Wind and Stone Ocean) with English and Japanese among its audio tracks. Availability varies by region and changes over time.
Which to pick
In the US, as checked on October 7, 2026, Crunchyroll gives you the sub and Netflix lets you choose. The facts do not make the dub a weak option: one studio has produced it for every part, the leads are credited on ANN for each season, and the named critic who graded both tracks for Stone Ocean's first 24 episodes gave the dub a B and the sub a B-plus. Choose the sub if you want the cast the anime was made with. If Stand names matter to you, read the section above first; we have not verified which names the dub's spoken track uses.
