Battle Tendency

Caesar catching JoJo palming a card, in a series where the heroes routinely cheat and win. It is a small line that turns out to be the whole difference between the two of them.

The grandson of a man whose most famous manoeuvre is a screaming tactical sprint, filing flight under inheritance rather than embarrassment. Delivered with a completely straight face.

Diamond Is Unbreakable

“This may be a foreign concept, but I choose not to concern myself with winning or losing, life's troubles, or enemies who bring sleepless nights.” — Yoshikage Kira

A serial killer describing his self-care routine in the vocabulary of a wellness column. The language is what convicts him; nothing in the sentence is untrue.

“Sorry, but I refuse!” — Rohan Kishibe

Four words, and the series' vainest artist hangs his entire economy on them. Refusal as a character trait, deployed at the moment cooperation would obviously be cheaper.

Golden Wind

“You disrespected that innocent old man's life. So I changed one of your guns into a banana. You should savor your last meal while you can.” — Giorno Giovanna

The murder weapon is fruit. Giorno takes the killer's own stated principle, that disrespect is sufficient cause, and applies it back to him with a straight face.

“I was also well aware that I could be captured. But a mission must be completed, and I'll protect my crew. Capos worth their salt must be prepared for both. That is the burden we all carry. Can you say the same? 'Cause I'm raring to go.” — Bruno Bucciarati

Said by a body that has been aged decades in minutes by an enemy Stand, which is the detail most reproductions of this speech leave out. The burden is being described by someone visibly under it.

Stone Ocean

“Don't call me JoJo! Only my mother calls me that.” — Jolyne Cujoh

The first JoJo to refuse the name, in a Florida holding cell, to a lawyer who has already sold her out. The refusal is the character arriving.
