Original Dragon Ball 5 resumes Goku’s tournament final against Jackie Chun. Continue from the fourth original-series paperback for the match’s setup. Its contents lists Tales 49 to 60; this is original Dragon Ball, not Dragon Ball Z with the same spine number. The opening analysis follows a change in technique and the spectators’ differing responses to it. It stays within the licensed excerpt and does not name the tournament’s eventual winner or supply an anime episode correspondence.

The announcer sees Goku gaining an advantage over an experienced opponent, but Jackie Chun can change what the contest demands. His elaborate pose prepares the audience for a formidable attack; the technique instead puts Goku to sleep. Krillin protests that the fancy name disguises ordinary hypnosis. That objection does not wake Goku or stop the count. A shout about dinner does: the practical solution comes from somebody who knows what will catch his attention. Jackie’s private reasoning also complicates the apparent contest of age against youth. He wants to win so that Goku will keep training, rather than treating his present strength as sufficient. An intention to teach does not make every tactic transparent to the pupil or the crowd. This analysis reads only printed pages 7–17 of VIZ’s licensed English preview, within the continuing final. It assesses that interruption, not the final result.
