Dragon Ball’s eighth book opens with Taopaipai’s arrival at the Red Ribbon Army headquarters. The actual contents list Tales 85 to 96, and the title page identifies this as book 8 of the original 42-book sequence. This note covers only printed pages 7 to 17 in VIZ’s licensed preview. It does not describe Goku’s later training or confrontation from the contents titles. The English Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z numbering split is recorded in the book itself.

Bora thanks Goku for rescuing his son and freely shows him the sphere that turns out to be his grandfather’s Dragon Ball. The opening then moves to a very different exchange. Taopaipai names a price for killing, jokes about an anniversary discount and offers Commander Red a demonstration. Blue brings back useful equipment, but Red insists that recovering the Dragon Balls was his assigned task and makes survival conditional on fighting the hired assassin. The scene places gratitude beside a system that treats achievement as insufficient unless it serves the commander’s demand. Taopaipai’s absurd method of striking Blue does not remove the cruelty of that bargain. His demonstration establishes a threat in the inspected pages; it does not establish how he will fare against Goku or whether the army’s remaining targets will be killed.
