Frieren Volume 8 begins at the border of the Northern Plateau, where the party stocks up before crossing. The inspected contents list chapters 68 to 77. The opening tests a traveler's first impression of the landscape against the dangers of living there. This is a continuation after the mage examination, not an introduction to the party. The standard paperback has its own place in the catalog; its number does not denote an omnibus or a new edition's starting volume.

Stark initially sees an ordinary forest. Fern answers that they are surrounded, and the following encounters give her warning substance. The village then shifts the question from whether this route is dangerous to why anyone remains there. Its host offers lodging and asks the travelers to remove a monster that has stopped merchants reaching the settlement. He knows the danger, yet identifies the place with his family and childhood. Frieren accepts the request, and the later memory of Himmel links protecting a home with protecting homes belonging to others. Staying is given a reason, not proved safe. This reading covers only printed pages 3 to 19 of the licensed VIZ preview. It does not establish how the later Northern Plateau adventures end.
