Chapters 55 to 63, and the volume where the boundary between the first two seasons actually falls. Season 1 runs to episode 35 and ends on chapter 61, the seventh of the nine chapters here, rather than on chapter 54 at the end of the previous book. Chapter 54 closes the previous book, which is where we used to put the boundary. The adaptation does not stop until seven chapters later. Season 2 opens at chapter 62. So a viewer coming off season 1 starts two chapters from the back of this book, buys it for chapters 62 and 63, and rereads the other seven. Beginning at chapter 62 and buying Vol. 8 is the cheaper instruction, unless the rest of the Forest of Death is wanted in print. 3-in-1 book 3 opens here with Vols. 8 and 9.

Sasuke wakes up in this book, and what wakes with him is Orochimaru's mark from Vol. 6. Team 10 is losing the fight it walked into when the Cursed Seal activates, and the thing that stands up ends the engagement so quickly that the opponents give it up and run rather than be finished. The volume does not say what the mark costs. It says that it works, which is the harder version of the problem and the one Part I is built around. The rest is procedure: three days of recovery, a last set of stragglers, and the second exam closed out in 'One More Face'. The seam is the reason to check this page before buying. Episode 35 ends on chapter 61, so the where-to-start answer for anyone who has finished season 1 is chapter 62, which is two chapters from the back of this volume rather than the front of the next one. It is the one book in the first twelve that a viewer buys for a fraction of its contents.
