This is the book in the Arlong Park arc to be honest about: its protagonist spends most of it out of the fight. Chapters 82 to 90 are the charge into the park and then three undercard fights running in parallel, Zoro against the six-sword fish-man Hatchan while still carrying Mihawk's wound, Sanji against Kuroobi, Usopp against Choo, with two villagers trying to reach Luffy and the captain himself nowhere. The fights are competent and they are not the reason to buy this run. Vols. 9 and 11 are. It is also not a volume to skip, because the arc is continuous and this is its middle. 192 pages, nine chapters, and the title on the cover is 'OK, Let's STAND UP!'.

Luffy is at the bottom of the sea for most of the book, his feet set in a block of ground that Arlong dug out and threw in, and Genzo and Nojiko cannot get him up. Zoro fights Hatchan with one sword and the injury from Vol. 6, wins, and spends what is left of himself buying Sanji the time to dive down and pull the rock off. Every member of Arlong's crew is beaten by the last chapter and Arlong alone is left standing for Vol. 11. What the volume is doing is clearing the board so the captain can have the villain to himself, and that costs nine chapters. Read collected, the cost disappears. Read one book at a time, this is the weakest single purchase in the first thirteen volumes, and the arc it belongs to is four books long, Vols. 8 to 11.
