Chapters 1036 to 1046, and the book where One Piece revises what its hero's power has been since chapter 1. The raid on Onigashima is in its last hours as this one opens: Zoro against King, Kid and Law against Big Mom, Luffy and Kaido going again after a pause. Then the Five Elders of the World Government explain something, and the phrase in the volume's title, 'Warrior of Liberation', is theirs. What it names belongs in the section below, because it is the fact about the back half of this series that readers most want to meet in place. Season 20 of the anime runs to chapter 1060, so all of this has been adapted. At 232 pages it is one of the longest books in the run, at the usual $11.99. Omnibus book 35 begins here; Viz names contents for book 1 only, so that placement is ours.

The Gum-Gum Fruit was never what it was sold as. The Five Elders identify it as a Mythical Zoan, the Human-Human Fruit Model Nika, and the god it makes is the one their own records call the Warrior of Liberation and the Sun God. Luffy wakes it up and calls the result Gear Five. That is the largest retroactive change One Piece has made to itself, and the argument about it is whether a joke power invented in 1997 has been paid off or written over. The rest of the book clears the board for it. Zoro beats King. Kid and Law put Big Mom underground, Law silencing her mid-technique so that Kid can finish. Orochi, pinned under rubble and held human by Sea Prism stone, burns at the hands of Kanjuro, who comes back as a living flame, while Hiyori plays 'Moon Princess' and tells him it was her father Oden's favorite song. Kaido lands a hit that takes Luffy's voice, announces that he is dead, and demands that Momonosuke submit. Zunesha tells Momonosuke that Joyboy has returned.
