Season 20: Wano Country ep. 892–1088

The raid finishes early in this book and the rest of it is bookkeeping, which is worth knowing before paying full price. Chapters 1047 to 1055 install a shogun, hold a feast, post new bounties and redraw the top of the pirate world; three of the nine chapter titles say so plainly, 'A New Morning', 'New Emperors' and 'The New Era'. Nobody buys the Wano books for this one. It is the receipt for the five before it, and its use is that everything printed after Wano assumes a reader has it. Season 20 of the anime runs to chapter 1060, so the whole of it is on screen. At 184 pages it is among the shortest books in this stretch, at the same $11.99 as the 232-page volume before it.

Denjiro kills Orochi in the opening chapter, which is the one piece of unfinished business the previous book left. Momonosuke then moves Onigashima so that Luffy can hit Kaido into the magma underneath it, alongside Big Mom, and the eruption that follows is the last thing the raid does. The rest is administration and it is more consequential than it reads. Luffy, Law and Kid are posted at three billion berries each. Three of the four emperor seats change hands, and one of the replacements is Buggy, which is the series telling a reader exactly what its own power rankings are worth. Word arrives that King Cobra is dead and that Sabo is accused of killing him, a thread that does not pay out for three volumes. Kozuki Sukiyaki takes the Master Tengu mask off for Nico Robin and confirms that Pluton is in Wano, and that opening the borders means tearing the walls down. Twenty years of Orochi and Kaido are declared over in the chapter the book is named for.
