- Season 9: Enies Lobby ep. 264–336
The Water Seven story ends in these ten chapters, 431 to 440, and stopping here costs a reader less than stopping almost anywhere else in the run. The crew is ashore while a new ship is built, a Marine vice admiral turns up with no apparent intention of arresting anybody, and the government's reply to Enies Lobby comes back as paper: new bounties on people who were not worth naming before. Two questions about who is in this crew are answered, and both belong below. Season 9 of the anime runs one chapter past this book, to 441, so a viewer is clear of it either way. 216 pages, $11.99 at list.

Three things settle here and all three are structural. Franky builds the ship and is press-ganged into the crew, the Straw Hats stealing his trunks to make him agree, and the Thousand Sunny is named at the end of it. Usopp comes back, which closes the split from Vol. 35. Garp is Luffy's grandfather: a vice admiral who arrives to visit and is then ordered by his superiors to try to catch his own grandson, which puts Luffy's family on both sides of the law before the series explains why. The bounties do the rest of the work. The World Government blames the Straw Hats for destroying Enies Lobby, which is close to the opposite of what happened, and prices the whole crew accordingly. The last pages leave Water Seven for Ace, who finds Blackbeard, the man he has spent the series looking for. What comes of that meeting is held back a long time.
