Season 15: Fish-Man Island ep. 517–578; Season 16: Punk Hazard ep. 579–628

The book where Fish-Man Island ends and Punk Hazard begins, with the anime's season boundary falling two chapters from the back. Chapters 647 to 656 give the first eight to the close of one arc and the last two to the start of the next. Season 15 stops at chapter 654, the eighth chapter here, and its final four episodes, 575 to 578, adapt nothing in these pages. Season 16 opens at chapter 655, the ninth. A viewer arriving from the anime therefore starts near the back of this book, not at the front of the next one, which is the usual assumption. Viz prints 216 pages here against a run that most often lands at 208, at the standard $11.99, and the volume is one of the twenty-four Viz states as the contents of Box Set 3, volumes 47 to 70.

Season 15 ends on 'A Gam of Whales', chapter 654, which is the crew riding a pod of whales up into the New World, and then runs four more episodes of material that is in no volume. The manga has moved on by then. The first eight chapters settle the island: Jimbei gives Luffy his blood, Hody and Decken go to jail, the charges against the crew are dropped, and Caribou steals the kingdom's treasure before Luffy, Zoro and Sanji take it back. Chapter 651, 'A Voice from the New World', puts Luffy on a Transponder Snail with Big Mom, one of the Four Emperors, admitting he ate the candy that was her tribute and declaring war on her before the two have met. The last two chapters are a different story at a different temperature: a distress call, a burning island, and a crew that splits up the moment it lands.
