- Season 17: Dressrosa ep. 629–746
Dressrosa runs 103 chapters, and this is the book where it stops moving. Chapters 701 to 711 land the crew on Doflamingo's island and scatter them at once: Luffy enters a gladiator tournament under the name Lucy, Zoro goes after a stolen sword, Sanji follows a woman who works for the enemy, and Usopp and Robin are taken by the island's very small people. The bracket holds 556 fighters in four blocks and this book gets through two of them. It is not the reason to buy the run. Almost nothing in it closes, and it is a long way from here to anything that does. Season 17 runs from chapter 699 to chapter 801, so the anime has been through this book. The volume opens Box Set 4, stated by Viz as volumes 71 to 90 and listed at $214.99.

The prize is what makes the tournament more than a tournament. The Flame-Flame Fruit went back into circulation when Ace died, and Doflamingo has put it at the bottom of a 556-man bracket on his own island, so Luffy enters under a false name to win his brother's power back. The book keeps that in the background and spends itself on introductions. Bartolomeo takes Block B. Jesus Burgess takes Block A for the Blackbeard Pirates. The Tontattas, treated as fairies by everyone on the island, strip a Marine detachment of its clothes and briefly hold Robin before Usopp convinces them he is a legendary hero, a lie the following books make him pay for. The comedy is load-bearing, and it is still comedy.
