The wedding happens in this book, and what the arc has been doing changes inside it. Chapters 859 to 869 open with Bege laying out the assassination: break a cherished picture of Mother Carmel first, then the poison gas shells, on an altar built on top of the cake. Half the volume is the ceremony. The other half is a flashback to Big Mom's childhood, and it is where the series stops treating her as weather and starts treating her as a person with a reason. Season 19 covers chapters 825 to 910, so the anime has adapted all of this. It runs two hundred and eight pages at $11.99, inside Box Set 4, which Viz states as volumes 71 to 90.

Two payoffs land in the same book. The croquembouche Big Mom was denied in Vol. 83, which read then as a gag about appetite, turns out to be the cake Mother Carmel made for her sixth birthday on the day Carmel sold her to the World Government. And the utopia she built, a country where nobody is abandoned, is a decision she made as a six-year-old, before the World Government arrived for her. The flashback also does the job the arc needed doing: it makes the first food rampage a catastrophe rather than a running joke, since the one on the seventh day of a twelve-day fast levels Elbaph and exiles the orphanage that took her in. Pudding gets the other reversal. She exposes the third eye hoping to stun Sanji, and it is his respectful answer that surprises her instead. Bege's plan fails, and the rest of the arc is an escape.
