Season 19: Whole Cake Island ep. 783–891

The Katakuri duel that has run across two books finishes inside this one, and how it finishes belongs below rather than here. Chapters 890 to 900 open with Big Mom on top of the Sunny and the crew out of answers, and they carry the last long fight of the arc to its end. This is the volume the Whole Cake Island run has been buying position for, and it is one to read in a sitting rather than a week at a time. A reader arriving without Vols. 87 and 88 gets the fight and none of the reason it matters. Season 19 covers this volume. Its final episode adapts chapter 910 before chapter 909, so the reading recommendation resumes at chapter 909. It runs two hundred and sixteen pages at $11.99, inside Box Set 4, which Viz states as volumes 71 to 90.

Luffy wins, with a third Gear Four form, and the arc's other antagonist is not beaten at all. Big Mom is stopped by being fed. The cake Sanji, Pudding and Chiffon baked across the last two books reaches her, she eats until she is sated, and she sings a tribute to the flavor while her fleet closes back in, which is the most literal statement this arc makes about what power is: an Emperor of the Sea neutralized by catering, temporarily, and only because the cook was good enough. The other closing beat is Jimbei. The Sun Pirates turn up to drive off Big Mom's forces and to see him off, which settles the request he made in Vol. 83 at a cost to everyone except the Straw Hats. Germa arrive and fight for the crew their son left them for. Nothing here is clean, and the escape is still not finished.
