Kakashi's bell test in Naruto is the nearest relative of the egg, a trial whose real subject is hidden from the person taking it, but Togashi's version has the unusual property of being lethal on both ends. Feed it a bad life and the beast eats you; feed it a good one and it carries you home. Compare the bell test, which is graded by a teacher who already knows the answer. Koenma does not know how Yusuke will do and says so, and he has staked his own judgment on a delinquent his father's ledger had not scheduled to die. The egg is a bet, not an exam, and that is why it can be broken in episode four and mean something.

The joke is structural, not verbal: the afterlife is run by a toddler with a pacifier, and the toddler is offended that you noticed. It is a good joke, and it has been quoted for thirty years as if it were a good line, which it is not. The dub's phrasing is flat and the speech ends on a threat nobody in the room takes seriously, Yusuke least of all, since his next question is how many hundreds of years it takes to move past a diaper. What the scene actually establishes is more useful than the line: Spirit World is a bureaucracy, its ruler is petty and overworked, and the boy it just hired will never once treat it with respect. The series keeps that promise. The quote is just the office memo.
