“To have power is not to be strong. You see, I know that better than anyone.”
2 quotes from Digimon Tamers, each with commentary on what it means and why it stuck.
“To have power is not to be strong. You see, I know that better than anyone.”
“Do what you must, Beelzemon, but I will not let you hurt these children.”
The scene begins with Leomon stopping an attack on Kyubimon and ends with Beelzemon fatally wounding him. His commitment already has a body behind it before it becomes a sentence. Yet the threat also exposes the limit of protective promises: being willing to take the blow does not give him control over what the attacker does next.
Beelzemon answers Leomon's intervention by fatally impaling him. That outcome makes the distinction harder, rather than furnishing an easy victory for moral strength: the children still need protection from someone who can overpower their protector. Leomon's position has value because he accepts that risk, but the maxim cannot make the risk disappear.
