“Duh! That is what Digimon do; they fight. And when they win, they get stronger, and when they get stronger, they digivolve. You two are just our stepping stones!”
Rika Quotes
2 quotes from Digimon Tamers, each with commentary on what it means and why it stuck.
“How heroic you look right now, standing in the moonlight.”
Earlier, Rika describes opponents as steps toward evolution. Here Renamon asks her to finish a compliment. The shift from assessing what a partner can win to enjoying how that partner looks is small enough to sound frivolous. It is also a better sign of affection than another speech about strength would be.
Renamon later calls Rika her partner when Impmon dismisses their bond as servitude. That defense is more generous than this sales pitch deserves. Rika turns two opponents into training equipment and calls the arrangement natural. The neat explanation of evolution does the ugly work of making her own ambition sound like everybody else's purpose.
