Hohenheim advises Pinako to leave before something terrible happens to the country. She does not claim he has misread the danger. She names people who may want to come home and need to find her there. That distinction matters: staying is not necessarily a failure to understand a warning, but it can still be a dangerous choice. The strongest case for leaving remains intact. Being available to others is of little help if remaining destroys that possibility, and the exchange supplies no guarantee of her safety. Pinako nevertheless identifies something escape would give up, rather than pretending it has no cost. Home depends partly on someone continuing to answer to the place. Her request that Hohenheim visit more often makes the obligation personal without naming everyone she expects. The scene earns respect for that commitment, not a general rule that the responsible person always stays. She chooses one uncertain duty over another form of security.

“Who the heck is this guy? He really doesn't get the joke, does he?”

Pinako calls Edward smaller, and he answers with insults about her size. She keeps the exchange going. Armstrong then removes his shirt, poses, and announces that he will remedy Edward's disrespect toward an elder. The person being defended thinks he has missed the joke. This is a useful reversal of the scene's apparent manners lesson. Pinako is neither a helpless target nor a silent permission slip for Edward to behave however he likes. She is an active participant whose response establishes what this particular exchange means to her. Armstrong sees the age difference and assigns the roles before attending to the conversation. His defense of respect therefore requires overlooking the elder's own judgment. That does not make every insult affectionate or every objection humorless. It makes automatic protection an unreliable substitute for listening. Pinako's question is funny because the imposing rescuer is the only person present who needs the relationship explained to him.
