The structural point is what that does to the rescue. The group walked into the Hollow world to save a human from monsters, and the quietest member has just identified himself with the monsters. Kubo never fully cashes the idea out, which is a real complaint; but the sentence is where the story admits it has been holding a card.

The strongest objection is that the series proves him wrong within the hour. He wins this fight, and Nnoitra walks in and puts him down in a panel, and nothing Chad has said about gaps and instability survives contact with the fifth Espada. Bleach is a ranked universe; the numbers are on their bodies. The answer to the objection is that Chad is not making a claim about the world.
