Black Clover Watch Order: Season 2 and the Manga
Watch all 170 episodes, then season 2 from 3 October 2026. Where the Netflix film fits, and where the finished manga picks up: chapter 271, in VIZ Vol. 27.
Watch the 170-episode first series, then season 2. The film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King is a separate, optional story outside the numbered run.
The short answers: season 2 began on 3 October 2026 in Japan, and Crunchyroll’s announced subtitle start is the same date. The manga is finished. Readers who want to go on from episode 170 pick up at chapter 271, in VIZ's Vol. 27.
When and where season 2 airs
Season 2 began on TV Tokyo and its affiliated stations on Saturday 3 October 2026 at 11 p.m. Japan time. The official October 3 launch-day notice states that the first episode has aired; this confirms the premiere rather than merely repeating its advance schedule. Outside Japan, Crunchyroll’s lineup lists an October 3 subtitle start in North America, Central and South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia. That readable announcement still gives no subtitle hour or dub start at our October 6 check. The streaming episode list was not readable in this review, so we cannot confirm playback availability or an exact streaming hour from it. Japan’s broadcast clock is not a worldwide streaming time.
Season 2 picks up at “Page 171”
Season 2 is not a reboot. The official site numbers its first episode 1 and prints “Page 171” beside it, carrying on from the first series' 170 episodes, so listings may call it either episode 1 or episode 171.
The official synopsis for that episode opens with the Clover Kingdom's Magic Knights preparing to take back Yami and the others seized by the Dark Triad. Asta and Liebe are working toward Devil Union, and Yuno is training to beat Zenon and rescue Vangeance. The production calls this stretch the Spade Kingdom raid arc. Ayataka Tanemura, who directed the film, is directing, and Studio Pierrot is animating again.
What the 170 episodes cover
The first series aired in Japan from October 2017 to March 2021. It follows Asta and Yuno from the grimoire ceremony that opens the story to the Spade Kingdom's Dark Triad and their war on the Clover and Heart Kingdoms. The run was first listed at 51 episodes and continued into new seasons in October 2018 and October 2019, so some sites divide it into seasons. The episode numbers still run from 1 to 170, and those are what to follow.
Crunchyroll also carries the first series. If you last watched in 2021, rewatch the ending first. The final episodes deal with Asta and the devil in his grimoire, and season 2 starts from their aftermath.
Where the film fits
Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King opened in Japanese theaters and on Netflix worldwide on 16 June 2023. Its official site describes it as a Wizard King story that the manga never told. It is original to the film rather than adapted from the manga. Season 2's announced story comes from the manga's Spade Kingdom arc, not from the film.
Reading ahead: where the anime ends in the manga
The manga is finished. It began in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2015, moved to Jump GIGA in 2023 and published its final three chapters in Jump GIGA's spring 2026 issue; they are chapters 390 to 392. In English, VIZ has released 37 volumes. Vol. 37 came out on 4 August 2026.
Reviewing an advance screener, Screen Rant reports that season 2's first episode adapts chapters 271 to 275. That places the end of the first series at chapter 270. No official source states the chapter, so this is our inference from the review rather than an announcement.
Start with Vol. 27. Its contents run from chapter 262 to chapter 272 and include the chapter VIZ titles “The Devil-Binding Ritual,” which the anime's final episodes depict. Reading the whole volume means going over a few chapters the anime covered, and it leaves no gap. Do not jump to Vol. 28: it opens with chapter 273, “Day of Destiny,” so starting there skips chapters 271 and 272, which season 2's first episode adapts.

Reading on from Vol. 28 takes you past season 2's first episode and, eventually, to the ending the anime has not reached. VIZ prices were checked on 24 September 2026. They are publisher listings, not live offers.
Starting from the beginning
The first three chapters are free on VIZ's Shonen Jump reader. They cover the grimoire ceremony, the entrance exam and the squad draft. Our Black Clover quotes are checked against VIZ's English pages, several of them from those chapters. The Asta and Yuno pages show how differently the two leave the exam.
For manga readers, our opening analyses of Volume 2 and Volume 3 examine Asta’s promise to protect civilians and the rival squads’ cooperation. Both cover bounded licensed excerpts; they do not supply an anime continuation point.
The standard Volume 4 opening analysis examines the capital’s defenders, whose public protection coexists with dismissive attitudes. It identifies the licensed pages read and keeps the later outcome outside the argument.
The standard Volume 5 opening analysis examines the competing demands of defending the capital and rescuing Asta. The spoiler note identifies the pages read and leaves the later outcome outside its argument.
