Did Gojo Say “Are You the Strongest Because You're Satoru Gojo”?

No. Suguru Geto asks it of Gojo in season 2, episode 5, after revealing his plan to kill every non-sorcerer. The wording that circulates also differs from the one ComicBook prints.

Misattributed. The question is about Satoru Gojo, and it is aimed at him. He does not ask it. Suguru Geto does, in Jujutsu Kaisen's second season, at the point where the two friends are already on opposite sides.

The scene

ComicBook's list of the series' lines places it in season 2, episode 5. Geto has made his plan to kill all non-sorcerers known, and Gojo has told him the dream is impossible. Geto's answer turns the objection around: "You could do it, couldn't you, Satoru? Yet you would try to convince someone else that it's impossible to do something that's possible for you? Are you the strongest because you're Satoru Gojo? Or does being the strongest make you Satoru Gojo?" ComicBook reads it as said "with a hint of annoyance and slight envy."

That is why the swap matters. Coming from Gojo it would be self-examination. Coming from Geto it is an accusation: the strongest sorcerer is telling the weaker one what cannot be done.

The wording

The shared version ends "or are you Satoru Gojo because you're the strongest?" ComicBook's ends "Or does being the strongest make you Satoru Gojo?" The meaning is the same and the words are not. We have not read VIZ's English chapter or a named anime track, so we cannot say which wording either official English release uses, or whether the shared version comes from one of them.

How we checked

Jujutsu Kaisen has no Wikiquote page, so the witness is editorial: ComicBook's body text, read on October 14, 2026, which prints the full passage and names Geto. One outlet is enough to place the speaker. It is not enough to settle the wording, which is why the page quotes ComicBook's and stops there. Gojo's own checked lines are on his page, and another Gojo line with two official wordings is examined in Did Gojo Really Say Nah, I'd Win? The series is in the Jujutsu Kaisen buying guide; the verdict is logged in the fact-check database under the verification method.
