Did Gojo Really Say “Throughout Heaven and Earth, I Alone Am the Honored One”?

Where is the line recorded?

CBR's feature prints "Throughout Heaven and Earth, I alone am the honored one" in its body and places the scene in season two, episode four, "Hidden Inventory, Part 4." It describes Gojo's recovery after Toji nearly kills him. That is the witness for the English wording here: one editorial publisher, not our own review of an identified subtitle or dub track.

The manga chapter number and its licensed English wording are not certified by this comparison. Nor does CBR's English transcription identify which release supplied it. A caption quoting this page should retain "I alone" and describe the witness as CBR's reported anime wording, rather than labeling it a checked dub or subtitle.

The older Buddhist wording

Wikiquote's Blue Cliff Record page prints 天上天下唯我獨尊 beside its English rendering in case 57. The page about Shigeto Oshida prints the closely matching characters 天上天下唯我独尊 in a passage retelling the Buddha's birth story. The second passage is under "Quotes about Shigeto Oshida" and attributed there to Chisato Kitagawa (p. x of Jesus in the Hands of Buddha), not to Oshida himself. We have checked the Wikiquote attribution, not the book’s interior. These are useful witnesses to an older saying and its English variants; they do not verify a historical newborn's spoken words.

CBR discusses the Buddhist parallel in Gojo's scene. That supports identifying an allusion, without claiming Akutami personally explained his intention or that the entire episode reproduces a particular Buddhist doctrine. The same saying can do different work in a birth story, a koan and a fight.

Is Gojo boasting?

CBR's account puts the declaration after a near-fatal defeat and Gojo's discovery of how to heal himself. Confidence coming after that reversal has a different force from his earlier answer to a student's hypothetical question, checked on our "Nah, I'd win" page. He is speaking from a newly demonstrated capacity, rather than simply predicting an outcome.

Calling it only a boast misses that reversal. Calling it no boast at all misses the self-exalting words. Our reading keeps both: the recovery earns the confidence, while borrowing sacred language makes the confidence excessive. The source record can settle the reported wording; it cannot require a reader to agree with that interpretation. Gojo's character page follows the tension between confidence and isolation through other checked lines.

How we checked, and where the evidence stops

The linked CBR body and both Wikiquote pages were re-read on October 5, 2026. CBR prints both the full "I alone" version and a version omitting "alone." An omission inside one article is not evidence of an alternative licensed translation: no separate track or edition is identified there. The table therefore preserves the full recorded line and treats the shortened version as an unresolved discrepancy within the source.

The two Buddhist pages support the older-language parallel, not a second check of the anime. The anime wording remains supported by one editorial publisher under our verification rules. An identified licensed episode track or manga passage would strengthen the record; the contact page accepts specific edition and scene pointers.
