Jujutsu Kaisen Watch Order

Watch season 1, then the film Jujutsu Kaisen 0, then season 2, then season 3. The film is a prequel, set a year before the series, and that fact leads a lot of people to watch it first. Doing so is a mistake, and it is worth explaining why rather than just asserting it.

Everything, in order, with the numbers

1. Season 1: 24 episodes, October 2020 to March 2021.
2. Jujutsu Kaisen 0: the film, in Japanese cinemas from 24 December 2021. A prequel, and it goes here rather than first.
3. Season 2: 23 episodes, July to December 2023, in two blocks: five episodes of Hidden Inventory / Premature Death, then eighteen of the Shibuya Incident.
4. Season 3: The Culling Game Part 1: 12 episodes, January to March 2026. The official finale announcement confirms overall episode 59, season 3 episode 12, extended to a 27-minute broadcast.
5. Season 4: The Culling Game Part 2: confirmed, with the official June 19 announcement introducing its teaser and director Takeru Sato, formerly assistant director on season 3. The August 29 update adds a teaser visual and story information, but gives no broadcast date.

That is 59 episodes and one film to date, not counting two theatrical compilation films of television episodes. Anyone starting now has a finished run to the end of the Culling Game's first half and then a wait of unknown length, which is what makes the manga question below the useful part of this page.

Why release order beats chronological order here

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 adapts material that was published before the main series, and it takes place before it. On paper that makes it the natural starting point.

In practice the film is built on the assumption that you already know these characters. Its emotional weight depends on recognizing who Gojo is, on understanding what a curse costs, and above all on its final scene, which lands as a reveal only if you have already met the person it concerns. Watched first, that scene is a piece of exposition about a stranger. Watched after season 1, it reframes an entire relationship.

This is the general rule with prequels made after the fact: the writer knows the audience has seen the later material, and writes accordingly. Chronological order is a property of the story, but the film was engineered for release order.

Where the film actually goes

Between the seasons rather than before or after both. Season 2 opens with a long flashback to Gojo's student years and then moves into the Shibuya arc, and several threads in that arc pay off setup the film established. Watching it in the gap means those payoffs land as payoffs.

Watching it after season 2 costs little. Watching it first costs the film its ending.

The recap you can skip

There is a recap special of season 1, aired partway through season 2, before the Shibuya Incident arc. If you are watching straight through, it is redundant. If you are returning after a gap, it does the job. Nothing in it is new.

Where to pick up the manga

Chapter 181. Season 3's twelfth episode ends with Uro and Ishigori giving Yuta their points. Volume 21 opens on that handover in chapter 181, the first chapter of the Tokyo No. 2 Colony, before moving on to material the anime has not shown, so start there. The manga itself is finished: it ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from March 2018 to September 2024 and collects into 30 volumes, so there is no waiting on the page the way there is on screen.

This number moves every time a season airs, and a watch-order guide that will not commit to one is no use, so: it is 181 as of the season 3 finale in March 2026, and if season 4 has aired by the time this is read, it will have moved.
