The speaker killed his entire clan in one night, on the argument that the clan was about to move against the village. Read against that, the sentence is not detached philosophy but an attempt to make the act intelligible to somebody, and the vocabulary gives it away: enslaves, limits, compulsion. He is describing a machine he was raised inside and then dismantled with a sword.
