Judeau's job in the band is to read people, and the reading here is less friendly than the tone. Guts has just been dragged to a celebration he did not want, dropped in a moat twice, and has spent the day making it clear that he was acquired rather than recruited. Fitting in, in Judeau's sense, means being the kind of man who can be used for the things the Hawks are for, and he has seen enough to know Guts is that kind of man. The line is a welcome and an assessment in the same breath, which is how Judeau talks throughout the Golden Age; he is the one who later notices that Casca cries when she is alone, and the one who never says what he has noticed about her and Guts until it is too late to matter. His prediction comes true and then some. Guts fits in so well that leaving is the only way he can find out who he is, and Judeau, of everyone, is the least surprised when he goes.
