The objection is obvious and it is the wrong way round. Tucker has just turned his daughter into a chimera and is comparing that to two boys who tried to resurrect their mother, and the comparison is monstrous. It is also not answerable, which is the trap. Edward has no reply in the scene beyond denials and his fists. What separates the cases is intent and who was harmed, and Edward cannot say so cleanly. The series takes another sixty episodes to work out the difference and the answer it lands on is not innocence but restitution. Edward spends the whole run trying to give the body back. Tucker never once tries to undo anything. The line is a correct observation deployed by a man who has forfeited the standing to make it, and it stings for exactly that long.

Ten words, and they only work because the episode spent twenty minutes installing a piece of bureaucracy. State alchemists are assessed annually; Tucker passed two years earlier with a chimera that spoke once and then refused food until it died; the deadline is coming; last year's evaluation went badly. All of that is delivered as background about a license. Then his daughter and her dog are gone and a new chimera says Edward's name, and after a word of praise for it he makes a note about paperwork. What makes the scene one of the most effective in the series is that the horror is administrative. He is not raving and he has no philosophy. He has a renewal date. Arakawa builds an institution that quietly makes this the rational move for a mediocre man, and then declines to give him any motive grander than keeping his job.
