“Every part of me stinks! Couldn't I have switched with someone who showers!? Why did it have to be Mista!?”

“Every part of me stinks! Couldn't I have switched with someone who showers!? Why did it have to be Mista!?”
“We have to find him, quick! I can pick up traces of his aura! He's still lurking around! We can't rest until we find him!”
Trish is the only person in this scene reasoning from evidence, and she loses the argument anyway. There is no body. She can still sense traces of her father, a sense the story has let her rely on before. By any ordinary standard of a JoJo fight the villain is not finished. Giorno's reply is a feeling. He says in as many words that he did not see Requiem at work himself, and that something deep in his soul tells him the job is done. The show sides with Giorno, and it is right to, since Diavolo is by then already dying over and over: stabbed in a tunnel by a stranger, then waking somewhere else to die again. But notice who is given which part. Certainty goes to the man with no evidence, and doubt goes to the daughter who has spent the whole part hunted by that same aura. A protagonist who wins on intuition needs someone to say this line, and Trish is made to say it so that she can be told to take a breath. She had earned the right to keep looking.

Played for laughs, and it is funny: Trish wakes up in Mista's body and inspects his armpits and fingernails before anything else. It is also the latest in a run of small bodily humiliations the series keeps handing her. On the road to Venice she asked Bucciarati for a bathroom and was offered a closet inside a turtle. This is the same complaint at a larger scale. Her body has been taken and she has been issued a worse one, by nobody's decision. The consequence arrives in Diavolo Surfaces and turns the joke over. When King Crimson finally shows itself, it comes out of Mista's body. Diavolo has been riding in the very body Trish was sniffing and cursing, and the episode before, she was already baffled that she could not feel him the way she usually can. Her disgust was aimed at the right place for the wrong reason. She asks why it had to be Mista. The show's answer is that it was worse than Mista.
