Wotakoi Manga: Six 2-in-1 Books or the Box Set
Wotakoi is complete in English in six Kodansha paperbacks; the first five each collect two Japanese volumes. The box set, sold as the complete manga with a notepad, lists at exactly the six books’ combined price.
Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for Otaku is complete in English in six Kodansha paperbacks. Books 1 to 5 each collect two Japanese volumes; Book 6 finishes the story. The Complete Manga Box Set is sold as the complete manga with an exclusive sticky notepad, at the same list price as buying the six books separately.
The six books
| Book | Release | Pages | US list |
|---|---|---|---|
| Book 1 | April 17, 2018 | 256 | $17.99 |
| Books 2–5 | June 12, 2018 to October 5, 2021 | 256 each | $17.99 each |
| Book 6 | June 14, 2022 | 144 | $12.99 |
| Complete Manga Box Set | February 7, 2023 | 1,424 | $102.94 |
Book 1’s listing reads “Extra-long book includes 2 Japanese volumes!” and Book 6’s “Final volume!” All six are paperbacks in the distributor’s records, not hardcovers. Book 6 is shorter and cheaper: the Japanese edition ends at Volume 11, and Books 1 to 5 already account for ten volumes.
English and Japanese numbers
Because the first five books double up, English and Japanese numbers diverge from Book 1. English Book 3 is not Japanese Volume 3. Follow the English book numbers when filling a gap, and treat a listing that says “Wotakoi vol. 7” or higher with suspicion: there is no seventh English manga book.
The box set
Kodansha describes the box as “the complete nerdy rom-com manga ... in a collectible box set including an exclusive sticky notepad!” Five books at $17.99 and one at $12.99 come to $102.94, the box’s list price to the cent, so the box buys you the case and the notepad for nothing extra at list. Its 1,424 pages equal the six books added together, which fits it holding the same six paperbacks, though neither publisher page lists the contents book by book. If you own any of the six already, buy the missing books instead.
The art book is an extra
Kodansha’s Official Art Works (120 pages) has “over 100 pages of exclusive color artwork” plus “lengthy interviews with the author Fujita.” The distributor’s series list counts it as a seventh book, but it is not a manga volume and the story is complete without it.
Which to buy
- Trying it: Book 1, two Japanese volumes in one.
- Buying everything new: the box, same list price, plus the notepad.
- Fan with the story done: Official Art Works.
