The Best Attack on Titan Quotes, From the First Page to the Paths
Eleven verified Attack on Titan lines beyond the finale speeches, from Mikasa's farewell in volume 1 to Eren and Armin in the Paths, each with its source.
Spoilers throughout. This page assumes you have finished the series.
Attack on Titan's most quoted lines are speeches, and several of the best known are already read in the finale quotes guide: the opening narration, Erwin's question and his charge, Levi's order to Erwin, and two of Eren's final-season speeches. This page collects eleven other verified lines, from the early pages of the manga to the final season. Two are from Kodansha's English edition of volume 1, checked against the publisher-authorized Look Inside preview on Penguin Random House's site. The other nine are the anime's wording as a secondary source records it: one from Wikiquote's transcription, six from Anime News Network's episode reviews and two from ComicBook.com's list of the series' quotes. None of them is a check of a particular dub or subtitle release. The first four entries stop at the Uprising arc; from the Kruger flashback onward, the page carries major spoilers for the third season and the final season.
“See you later... ...Eren.” — Mikasa Ackerman
The farewell printed on p. 13 of Kodansha's volume 1, above a thick black band; below it, Mikasa is waking Eren under a tree. An ordinary goodbye placed where a break between two lives would go unsettles the opening more than a warning about Titans would.
“No... But I feel like I just had the longest dream... What was it? Now I can't remember...” — Eren Yeager
His answer on the next page, after Mikasa asks whether he was still dreaming. He can report how long the dream felt and nothing that was in it, and Mikasa notices his tears before he does: the feeling has outlived the story that would explain it.
“I choose the hell of humans killing each other over the hell of being eaten.” — Levi Ackerman
The close of a longer Uprising arc speech, as Wikiquote transcribes it; the speech opens with his wish to end a recurring nightmare. The arc sets the Scouts against other people, and Levi picks his hell before the experiment runs. He grew up in the Underground, so he is choosing between two options he has lived in.
“We aren't good people anymore.” — Armin Arlert
Also the Uprising arc, in the wording Anime News Network's episode review records. Armin has killed a woman who threatened Jean and can hear the prisoners Levi and Hange are torturing. The pronoun is the point: the guilt is shared, and saving Jean and getting the information do not buy back the account of themselves those methods have cost.
“There is no truth in this world. Anyone can become a God or a Devil, all it takes is for someone to claim that to be the truth.” — Eren Kruger
Season 3, episode 21, “Attack Titan,” in ComicBook.com's wording. Kruger, an Eldian double agent inside Marley, says it to Grisha, whose wife has been turned into a Titan. The series then tests the claim on one people: Eldians are devils in Marley and victims on Paradis, and nothing about them changes except who is doing the describing.
“To save Mikasa, Armin, and everyone else, you must see it through.” — Eren Kruger
The same episode, as Anime News Network's review records it. Grisha has never met a Mikasa or an Armin, and the man naming them is about to give Grisha the Titan serum. The episode does not explain it. One reading is that this is where the series stops being about walls: if memories can travel backward, whether anyone chose anything becomes hard to answer from inside the story.
“Now that it has come to this, if we can't recover Eren and the others, then there is no future for us.” — Armin Arlert
The Final Season, episode 7, from Anime News Network's review. Armin has transformed at the harbor and confronted the destruction before the Scouts' airship arrives. Getting Eren back becomes the condition of any future, without repairing what was done on the way, or showing that Armin has approved every later use of force.
“I can't help but think: Could there have been some other path?” — Armin Arlert
Episode 9, “Brave Volunteers,” confided to the still-crystallized Annie after he has taken part in the attack on Marley. The doubt arrives after the complicity, and Annie cannot answer, so the question stays open rather than proving a peaceful plan existed. What he has learned from people across the sea should still constrain what he helps do next.
“Kill this, kill that...it's all you think about. Just like someone I know.” — Armin Arlert
Episode 13. Gabi asks why Armin and Mikasa protected her from Kaya after Sasha's death. Armin's comparison finds the same fixation on killing inside his own circle; the protection has already happened, and the rebuke asks her to reconsider the expectation of violence she reads it through.
“Rather than letting someone steal my freedom, I'll steal theirs first.” — Eren Yeager
The Final Season Part 2, overall episode 79, “Memories of the Future,” in Anime News Network's wording, said while he and Zeke revisit the aftermath of his childhood rescue of Mikasa. In the same episode Grisha hesitates at the church where he kills the royal family, and Eren's voice pushes him on. The son helps produce the act he will inherit, which gives a line about freedom an uglier weight than a declaration of independence would have.
“No... I don't want that! I don't want her to find someone. I want to be her one and only for the rest of my life! And after I die, I want her to be hung up on me for at least ten years!” — Eren Yeager
Eren and Armin's conversation in the Paths, in the wording ComicBook.com prints. The outburst shrinks his enormous demands on the world to an embarrassing demand on one person, which makes it easy to recognize. Recognizable is not the same as generous: even the decade after his death is supposed to be organized around him, and familiar jealousy explains none of the catastrophe around the conversation.
Every line sits with its fuller commentary and recorded source on the Attack on Titan quote page. The finale quotes guide reads the speeches left out here, a separate fact-check looks at Levi's line about dreams, the ending explainer covers the finale, and the watch order sets out the seasons and specials. How each quote on this site is checked is in our verification notes.
Source bounds: the two manga lines were read in the Look Inside preview of Attack on Titan 1; Levi's line is in the Uprising section of Wikiquote's Attack on Titan page. The anime lines credited to Anime News Network and ComicBook.com use those outlets' English wording, and longer speeches are excerpted where the blurb says so.
