Jujutsu Kaisen: Sub or Dub?

Jujutsu Kaisen has a strong English dub, and the gap between it and the sub is narrow.

The short answer

For the seasons already out, whichever language you prefer: the margin is small enough that anyone who prefers dubs should watch the dub without feeling talked out of anything, and the English cast is not the compromise here. The one difference we can document is timing: the sub arrives first.

What the dub gets right

Kaiji Tang's Gojo is the standout performance. The read works because Gojo is a character whose menace depends on sounding bored, and the English performance commits to the boredom rather than hedging it with villain gravel.

The Yuji and Sukuna pairing is also cast intelligently. Adam McArthur plays Yuji at a constant high energy and Ray Chase plays Sukuna several registers below him, so the two voices coming out of one body stay legible as two people, which is the practical job that casting has to do in this series and is easy to get wrong.

The core cast has carried over. When Crunchyroll announced the first season's dub in November 2020, it named Adam McArthur as Yuji, Robbie Daymond as Megumi, Anne Yatco as Nobara and Kaiji Tang as Gojo, and all four are in the same roles in its cast announcement for the third season. McArthur's Yuji was nominated for Best VA Performance (English) at the 6th Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2022.

The sub arrives first

Crunchyroll, which streams the series outside Asia, streamed the first two seasons with subtitles as they aired in Japan, and each season's English dub started later. The first season premiered in October 2020 and its dub on November 20, 2020. The second premiered on July 6, 2023, and its dub began on July 20. The third, The Culling Game: Part 1, premiered in January 2026, and its dub began on January 22. A fourth season, The Culling Game: Part 2, was announced straight after the third season's finale, so the gap may matter again to anyone who wants each episode as it airs; for the finished seasons it no longer does.

The manga is a third track

Anyone quoting Jujutsu Kaisen is choosing between three English scripts, not two, because the licensed manga translation is its own thing and has been revised after publication. Gojo's most quoted line is the example: the English chapter originally ended on a flat "no" and was later replaced with the version everyone knows. We took that apart in did Gojo really say "Nah, I'd win".

The practical upshot for quote hunters is the same as everywhere on this site. If a line reads differently on our Jujutsu Kaisen pages than you remember, you are probably remembering a different script, and we record which one each quote comes from rather than blending them.
