“For the last time, all we've got in the fridge are cold ones! Come on! Does your brain shut down when you talk to people!?”

“Well... I don't know. Maybe because we happened to pass out right next to each other. That aside, you know words can hurt just as much as Pistols sometimes.”
Mista has no standing to complain, and that is the case against the line. Seconds later he is caught scratching at Trish's underwear from inside her body, and his defense is a speech about elastic. A man doing that does not get to lecture anyone about hurtful words. Concede most of it: the scene is a farce and Mista is its clown. But the first half of the line deserves more credit than it gets. Trish has just demanded to know why she had to land in the body of someone who never showers, and Mista's shrug is the correct theory of the whole attack. Everyone swapped with whoever was lying closest when Rome fell asleep, Giorno with Narancia and Mista with Trish. He states the rule in one sentence and spends the next on a pun, sticks and stones rebuilt around Sex Pistols. That is Mista in miniature. The deduction gets thrown away and the joke gets kept, and the team's joker turns out to have been paying the closest attention.

The clue that saves half the crew is sitting in this complaint. Mista is playing host inside the turtle, reading out the fridge (cola, mineral water, sparkling water, three juices), and Narancia keeps asking for something warm. Mista's patience goes, and Narancia settles for a banana. A few lines later Narancia is coughing blood and losing a tooth while Mista jokes that it almost looks real, and Giorno works out that the people aging slowest in the Grateful Dead's gas are the ones who drank something cold. The joke and the solution are the same object. A viewer who laughs at the fridge argument has already been handed the rule the characters are still missing. It sets up the next episode too, when Mista sends one of the Pistols to carry an ice cube to Bucciarati. What the line shows of Mista himself is small and exact: a man who handles a crisis by fussing over the drinks, and whose irritation turns out to be the most useful thing anyone says on that train.
