Her brother's caption on the page before sums up her life as suffering. Her own words, in the memory he is running on, describe a decision. Told on folio 100 that she should buy a new kimono instead of mending the old one again, she says no, that she likes it, that she is fine, and then where the money went. Chapter 1 had already shown the habit from outside: Rokuta on her back on folio 11, being put to sleep, and on folio 26 her body found fallen over his as if shielding him. Tanjiro's answer, sprinting with her in the basket, promises everything he could not give the others and a beautiful kimono on top. The vow is generous and answers a want she had declined. The hemp-leaf kimono she wears in the memory is the one she wears on folio 11 and still wears in the way station on folio 70. The vow is about what Tanjiro owes; her line was about what she had already decided.
