The dub gives it the full exclamation-mark treatment and it still works, which tells you where the weight sits. Narancia is the crew member Bucciarati most explicitly wanted to keep out of this, and the sentence is the reason that fails: he has decided that Trish's pain is his, and he says so from the water, mid-stroke. The cost is announced in the same breath. Every member who boards the boat is on a road that ends in Rome, and Narancia's end is the one the story stages most cruelly, impaled on a fence in a garden while the others are looking elsewhere, his body carried by Giorno so he can be buried in the sun. Her wounds were his wounds. He took the sentence literally, and the series let him.

Bucciarati has just committed treason and told his crew to stay on the dock, and Narancia has jumped into the lagoon to swim after the boat. The decision is out of proportion to what he knows. He has no idea who the Boss is, no plan, and a Stand that fights by aiming a toy plane; what he has is a history the series has already shown us, a boy thrown out by his father and jailed for something a friend did, taken in off the street by Bucciarati and taught to read. Trish's situation is his own: a child the organisation was going to discard. So the oath is not bravery, it is recognition. He is not choosing the Boss's enemies. He is choosing the one adult who ever chose him.
