“Enjoy your eternal penance, Angelo. Reflect on the life you stole from my grandpa and all the others!”
2 quotes from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, each with commentary on what it means and why it stuck.
“Enjoy your eternal penance, Angelo. Reflect on the life you stole from my grandpa and all the others!”
“Whoever insults my hair will get the full brunt of my fury! I WON'T STAND FOR THAT BULLSHIT!”
The hair is a running gag, and the reason it is not just a gag is a story Koichi tells in this same episode: a feverish four-year-old, a snowstorm, a car stuck on the road, and a stranger with a pompadour who pushed it free and walked away. Josuke does not know who the man was and neither does the reader. He copied the haircut. So the fury is not vanity, it is a memorial, and the show's habit of routing his only real violence through it is a way of saying the boy is fighting for a debt he cannot name. Here the target is Rohan, who insulted the hair on purpose to make Josuke open his eyes to the manuscript, and the insult backfired: the rage it set off is what let Josuke beat him. Araki knows exactly what he built.

His Stand can fix anything except himself, and the first villain of the Part is defeated by the fixing: Angelo is fused into a rock that becomes a landmark. Two episodes in, the series has told the reader what kind of justice this town runs on. It is not a death; Josuke's grandfather was a policeman and the boy inherits the job in both senses, so the killer gets the sentence a cop would want, permanent and visible. What the line commits Josuke to is a rule he keeps for the whole Part: he does not kill. Kira dies under an ambulance, not under Crazy Diamond. The rock is the precedent.
