He came to Egypt for revenge and got it halfway through the trip. Everything after J. Geil is Polnareff staying because he has nothing to go home to, and by the airport three of the six in the group are dead, one of them a dog he mostly fought with. So the insults at the gate are the register he can manage. Joseph is a coot and Jotaro is a cheapskate, and both answer in kind. Part 5 picks this up years later: he is in a wheelchair, in Italy, having tried to fight the Boss alone. He did not forget. The line's afterlife is that nobody ever does with him, which was the actual request.

The story had to kill his sister twice for this to work. First the murder that sent him across the world hunting a man with two right hands, and then a wish-granting Stand that digs her back out of the ground, rotting and obedient, so that Polnareff has to refuse the thing he asked for. The genie is a cheap device on its own. What makes the episode land is that Polnareff has spent the arc as the fool of the group, and the moment of clarity is given to him, not to Jotaro. He identifies the fake by what she does, which is try to eat him, and by what she cannot do, which is be Sherry, and he says so out loud and destroys her mid-sentence. The show lets the clown be the one who knows the difference between a person and a memory.
